Christine Hadlow from Keene Chamber Presents to our Club - 11/01/2017

Christine Hadlow from the Greater Keene Chamber of Commerce visited our meeting on November 1st. She is the Marketing and Member Services Manager of the Chamber. Christine shared the history of the Chamber and many of the activities they are involved with. The organization started in 1947 as the Keene Business Bureau and became the Chamber in 1954. It is an independent agency and currently has 425 members. 20% of their members are non-profit agencies, 35% are businesses with 20 or less employees. They hosts two major fundraisers each year, a Gala in January and a Golf Tournament in the summer. The Chamber is a non-profit organization that actively promotes economic growth in our area. Kiwanis Club of Keene Decorates Downtown Keene - 10/31/2017

The Kiwanis Club members, with the help of Lt. Ray Phillips and the Fire Department’s lift truck, wrapped lights on 28 light poles down the center of Main Street on October 31st.  This is the third year the light poles have been wrapped, to brighten our Main Street for the holiday season. On November 18, Club members will also be decorating the Central Square gazebo with wreaths and lights and the large tree will be decorated with the help of Phil’s Tree Service and Lt. John Bates of the Keene Fire Department.  The very tall tree is donated by the Gorman family from a property they own at 112 Washington Street.  All of this is in preparation of the Tree Lighting Celebration...


Kiwanis Learn About The Ash Hill Center for the Arts - 10/25/2017

Pam Dexter, Barbara Coburn and Bob Yantiss of The Ash Hill Center for the Arts spoke to the Kiwanis Club to share information on this new community arts resource. The Center is located in Swanzey in an elegant Georgian styled brick house that dates back to the early 1800’s. The Center has many options for artists to showcase their work, teach classes and attend workshops. The community can use their spacious facilities for meetings, lectures and special events. Live music and performance arts are also featured at the Center’s seasonal outdoor stage. Deb Ganley presents Cheshire Children's Museum and Camino Trail - 10/18/2017

Deb Ganley shared what's new at the Cheshire Children’s Museum since they entered their new space on Emerald Street earlier this year.  Then she showed slides and talked about her recent journey/walk on 250 miles of the Camino trail between Porto Portugal ad Santiago Spain.  She feels it has taught her the belief that one should do today what you look forward to doing and that it is good to learn to live in the moment.  Her slides were wonderful and she kept the whole group engaged while she shared details of her travels. 


Keene Kiwanis Visit Greenfield for an Interclub Dinner Meeting - 10/17/2017

Five members of the Kiwanis Club of Keene traveled to Greenfield, MA on October 17th for an Interclub meeting at the Kobe Restaurant. Greenfield club members shared news on their many upcoming events, including a Fall Festival, Community Meals, Trivia Night and Festival of Trees. Proceeds from all these events are given back to their community as charitable donations. They also presented new "Kiwanis Volunteer" t-shirts to their members, a visible reminder of what Kiwanis is all about! It was a great evening of fun and fellowship between neighboring clubs!


Keene Kiwanis Attend St. Joseph Builders Club Installation of Officers - 10/11/2017

October 11 marked another wonderful installation and induction ceremony of the St. Joseph Regional School Builders Club, a middle-school service organization sponsored by the Kiwanis Club of Keene.

The new officers are Alice Whittemore, President; Elizabeth Stanish, Vice President; Nihithaa Dineshkumar, Secretary; Martin Cardine, Treasurer; and Mackenzie Ahern, Public Relations.

There are 38 members in the club this year including sixteen fifth graders, nine sixth graders, seven seventh graders, and six eighth graders. The very experienced and wonderful advisor is Suzanne Foder, who has advised the group for over ten years.

Installation of Officers of four of the Division 16 Kiwanis Clubs

The Brattleboro Kiwanis Club hosted this year’s Installation Dinner at the American Legion in Brattleboro, VT.  Members of the Winchester, Peterborough, Keene and Brattleboro Kiwanis Clubs attended.  The food was served buffet style and was enjoyed by everyone.  Each Club shared highlights of their club’s activities over the past year.  Wishing all clubs a great 2017-2018 year and congratulations to all of the elected officers!


Reagan Messer of MoCo Arts Visits Kiwanis Club - 09/27/2017

Reagan Messer visited our club to speak about MoCo Arts, a Non-profit Multi Art organization.  Reagan is the Executive Director and Artistic Director of Dance.  MoCo is in its 25th year and have four program areas that they focus on: dance, theater, young arts and summer programs.  Their students range in age from 18 months to 18 years with some adults as well.  To learn more about their programs visit their website at: http://www.moco.org/.


Kiwanians Man a Water Station at Clarence DeMar Marathon - 09/24/2017

Seven members of the Kiwanis Club of Keene manned the water station at the entrance to the Surry Mountain Lake. We were able to cheer on the runners at the start of the half marathon and offer water or Gatorade to the runners of the full marathon at about mile 8.5. We congratulate all the runners who were in the race that day - everyone did such a great job!

Asheulot Concerts Brings Chamber Music to Kiwanis Meeting - 09/13/2017

The founding partners of Ashuelot Concerts, Nicholas Burns and Louisa Stonehill, spoke at our meeting this week and shared their love of classical Chamber Music.  Louisa played a Bach piece for us at the beginning of their presentation.
