Pathways For Keene Solar Lighting Project - 07/26/2017

Jan Manwaring and Chuck Redfern from Pathways For Keene spoke to our club about their upcoming project to install solar lighting to one of the Rail Trails. They are in the process of requesting proposals for solar light posts to light the Cheshire Rail Trail from Island Street to Pitcher Street, a distance of approximately 2500 feet. The purpose of the lighting is to expand the use of the trail for a few extra hours in the evening and early morning. The objectives are to enhance the safety of pedestrians and bicyclists during those hours and to encourage alternative commuting routes. Susan Ashworth, Director of Community Relations at Home Healthcare Hospice and Community Services came to our Wednesday breakfast meeting on June 19th and gave us a lot of information on what the agency does for our community members. 

Walk-in Wednesdays are a new way to get needed information.  On the first Wednesday of every month, their staff members who specialize in home care, geriatric care management and hospice are available to talk with you individually about your specific concerns.  From 3pm-5pm; drop by for completely free, off-the-record, no-commitment advice.

Sarah Johnson and Alcohol & Drug Abuse Coalition Programs - 06/28/2017

Sarah Johnson was our speaker on June 28th.  She is the Director of the Monadnock Alcohol & Drug Abuse Coalition (MADAC).  With the help of community members and diverse volunteers, MADAC aims to reduce youth alcohol and substance use in Cheshire County. Prevention initiatives are conducted year round and include media campaigns, youth-led anti-drug campaigns, school and college events, speaker presentations, and numerous one-time events.  Sarah highlighted the changes that have been happening and gave us numbers of youth and parents who attended some of the events that have been held.  One program helps parents to help their children make good choices.   The...
